MMA Class Descriptions" We are a small club with a BIG HEART. Having trained in martial arts for over 25 years the main things that put me off places were class sizes and atmosphere at D-TEC you will never be part of a HUGE class and will get the attention you are paying for!, You will also be made to feel welcome! starting anything new is a scary thing let alone a martial art! so the coaches and other students will always make you feel very welcome indeed! BJJ Gi classBrazilian Jiu-Jitsu aka Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is the art of ground fighting. Originally developed by the Gracie family for smaller guys in the country of Brazil, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu has evolved into an effective self defense system, a thriving sport, and an essential component of Mixed Martial Arts fighting (MMA). Gracie Jiu-Jitsu does not incorporate many of the fancy movements and complicated theories that other martial arts employ. In the real world - most fights end up on the ground - you have to be prepared for that scenario. we teach practical self defense techniques with a no attitude, no ego mentality. Students learn sport aspects and practical methods that don’t require strength or athletic ability. Brazilian Jiujitsu was made for everyone. A typical class begins with a light warm up and stretch. Once everyone is loose, instructor Richard Degville teaches students practical techniques and delivers personal care to ensure the class is learning and applying. Once the technique has been covered, live sparring for students who wish to participate is permitted. With Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, live sparring is an integral part of the art and what separates Brazilian Jui-Jitsu from most other martial arts.
No-Gi class ( Submission Wrestling )Submission wrestling (also known as submission fighting, submission grappling, sport grappling, or simply as No-Gi) or Combat wrestling in Japan, is a formula of competition and a general term describing the aspect of martial arts and combat sports that focus on clinch and ground fighting with the aim of obtaining a submission using submission holds. The term "submission wrestling" usually refers only to the form of competition and training that does not use a "jacket", "gi," or "combat kimono," often worn with belts that establish rank by color. The sport of submission wrestling brings together techniques from Folk Wrestling (Catch-as-catch-can), Luta Livre Esportiva, Freestyle Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and Sambo. Submission fighting as an element of a larger sport setting is very common in mixed martial arts, Pankration, catch wrestling and others. Submission wrestlers or grapplers usually wear shorts, skin-sticky clothing such as Rash guards, speedos and mixed short clothes so they do not rip off in combat.
Muay Thai kickboxing Muay Thai (known to some outside of Thailand as Muay Thai kickboxing) is a national sport of Thailand as well as a national passion. It is a fighting technique borne out of combat reality. Known as the science of eight limbs Muay Thai kickboxing uses the knees and elbows as well as kicks and punches. Almost any part of the body is considered a fair target and any part of the body, except the head, may be used to strike an opponent. It is considered by many to be the ultimate in hand-to-hand fighting. Muay Thai kickboxing is a professional and amateur sport, a martial art, aerobic fitness programme and a useful form of self-defence. But Muay Thai kickboxing is more than just learning how to fight. Muay Thai kickboxing is a strong and vigorous martial art art that teaches self-discipline and self-awareness. It has been passed down through generations for the last 2000 years.

Testimonials
" I didnt like the atmosphere at many BJJ schools I attended. It was all about winning and competition and not social, making friends, becoming better in character and being HAPPY in what you do. In competitive schools the PRESSURE is on and I feel that is the enemy. " Brian Lewis " I had always heard great things about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, including that it is arguably the most effective martial art out there, and that it's a great challenge and a lot of fun. When I went to my first class at Dtec, I didn't know what to expect. However, I was thrilled to find a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I also quickly found that everything I had heard about BJJ was true. It's a great workout and a lot of fun, and I'm learning skills that will be invaluable to me in a real life situation. Since I started training at Dtec, I've lost about half a stone, and still going. I've become a more well-rounded athlete, and I've gained a lot of self-confidence in the process. All of this while meeting new people and great instruction. It's an experience unlike any other." Eric Young
What to wear to any of the classes? Something comfortable like you would if doing an athletic activity or going to a gym ie t-shirt / shorts / jogging bottoms. If you are attending a BJJ class and you own a gi (kimono), then you can wear that or you can borrow one of ours. ( new students will be asked to buy a kimono fo practice after 2 weeks )
